Our greatest need is for advocates who provide emotional support on our 24/7 crisis line and offer hospital accompaniment to survivors of recent assaults. Once volunteers have completed the 20-hour required training, they can sign up for on-call shifts. Volunteers are always on-call with a staff member as backup. In order to protect advocate privacy Our Voice utilizes a call service which routes calls to your personal phone so you can be at home during your shift. Before filling out the application please read over the volunteer advocate position description.

Take crisis line calls during assigned shifts
Assist callers in crisis and provide clients with appropriate referrals to Our Voice services or other community agencies.
Go to the hospital with survivors after a sexual assault
Respond to hospital accompaniment calls within 30 minutes and provide all survivors of sexual assault information regarding options and procedures.
Take a minimum of 2 shifts each month
Volunteers will be able to sign up for shifts through the schedule on our online portal. Shifts are weekdays 5pm-8am and weekends/holidays 8am-8pm or 8pm-8am.
Participate in continued education at least once a year
Continued education trainings will be offered twice a year and advertised through email and our online portal.
Complete a 20 hour advocate training prior to taking shifts
This training is a requirement in order to maintain advocate privilege. We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 6 months on the crisis line following training.

On Thursday, May 2, from 5-9 p.m., Mosaic Realty will come together with 14 downtown Asheville galleries for the second annual Mosaic Art Walk and Benefit. This free community fundraiser, open to the public, will be hosted by Mosaic Realty, with each gallery highlighting a different local nonprofit. United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County is seeking volunteers to assist them at their table which will be stationed at the Asheville Art Museum for this event. Volunteer Responsibilities:

WNCAP (Western North Carolina AIDS Project) Dedicated to preventing new cases of HIV/AIDS and promoting self-sufficiency in people living with HIV. WNCAP provides HIV-related client support, prevention, education and advocacy activities guided by the belief that all people are entitled to equal access to health care and disease prevention.
WNCAP needs volunteers for the 2nd & 4th Saturday morning Food Box Delivery: 10am-noon. Ride with another team member and deliver pre-packed boxes of food to home-bound, food insecure families living in the Asheville/ Buncombe area. Join us for our 2024 Spring Workday on March 23rd from 12pm-4pm! We’ll need help with everything from gardening to painting to cleaning. Some tools will be provided, but bring your own with you have them! For every 3 volunteer hours, you’ll receive 1 free ticket. |

Democrats need to be more actively messaging and to overcome the makers of fake news with the truth! Join this ongoing group of writers working together on Letters to the Editor and Opinion Editorials. We’ll discuss the issues we care about most deeply and craft a plan to respond to events as they occur in real time. The group meets every other Monday for writing, responding to one another’s work, scheduling submissions and exploring media outlets across the state.

Who should attend: Buncombe County Democrats!
Bring your laptops and fully-charged cellphones for this in-person phone bank session! We will be making calls to increase voter participation throughout Buncombe County during these regularly scheduled phone banks on Monday evenings and Tuesday mornings.
If you don’t have a laptop, we have several at HQ, so just be sure to bring your email login information so we can get you started. If you already have an Action ID User ID & password, bring those as well. (If you don’t have one, we’ll help you get set up with one after you arrive.)
After making calls at HQ, you’ll be encouraged to continue making calls from the comfort of your home afterwards.
We will have plenty of refreshments on hand, and we hope you’ll keep coming back, because this phone banking community is growing and having lots of fun!

Please come dressed in work clothes with close toed shoes. Bring water and sun protection. All other gear and supplies are provided.

We’re offering in-person and remote volunteer opportunities. We have programs teaching English to immigrants, adult literacy for folks working on a GED, and youth literacy for kids struggling to learn to read. Organizing a litter cleanup with your friends, neighbors, co-workers, or other community members is easier than you may think! Asheville GreenWorks provides cleanup supplies and safety information, and will coordinate trash pick up as needed. Available supplies include safety vests, gloves, trash grabbers, trash bags, and SHARPs containers (upon request).
Review the attached guides for instructions and safety information.

Come and enjoy a few hours getting your hands dirty in the lovely Leicester Library Giving Garden.
The Leicester Library Giving Garden aims to connect and strengthen our community through growing and sharing food. The food grown in the Leicester Giving Garden is given to the community for free, so the work you do in the garden directly supports your neighbors in Leicester.
These workdays are an opportunity to volunteer in the garden, learn more about how to get involved, and about gardening in general. Open to all regardless of experience!
Our tasks include:
- Filling dumpster
- Painting set panels
- Carpentry work on side stages
- Putting gravel down
- General cleanup
Lunch is on us! See you this Saturday. Don’t forget to bring your gloves or grab a pair from us.
