The Henderson County Chamber of Commerce, UNC Health Pardee, Optimum, and Hunter Automotive are pleased to announce the 17th Annual ATHENA Leadership Award in Henderson County in memory of Vanessa Y. Mintz. Nominations are now being accepted for the ATHENA Leadership Award, which will be presented at the Professional Women’s Luncheon in April to an exemplary leader who has achieved excellence in their business or profession, served the community in a meaningful way, and, most importantly, actively assisted women to achieve their full leadership potential.

 

Vanessa Y. Mintz brought the ATHENA award to Henderson County in 2008 and she embodied the values underlying ATHENA International’s philosophy of incorporating the talent and expertise of women into the leadership of our businesses, our communities, and our government. Reflective of a quote attributed to Plato, “What is honored in a country will be cultivated there”, the ATHENA Leadership Award honors and illuminates the leaders and leadership styles of individuals others would emulate.

The program is facilitated locally by the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce, a licensed ATHENA host organization. Nominations are sought throughout the community. Recipients are selected by a diverse group of out-of-town professional judges, based on Athena leadership criteria.

PacJAM Performers Audition

Advanced PacJAM students are invited to audition for this new track designed to help grow their musical potential. PacJAM Performers will be best prepared to represent PacJAM bands that play throughout the region and in esteemed music festivals.

Advanced students are invited to audition on January 15 to be a part of this extensive new track designed to enhance and grow their musical potential. Instruction will get underway on Monday, January 22 and continue through Monday, April 22.

As with any coordinated group activity, multiple and extra coached sessions per week are optimal for best results. Work will be done in small group ensembles to help develop their abilities and repertoire for performing in PacJAM bands throughout the region.

Classes are $12/session for a total of $168 per student, with a 20-percent discount of $134 for each additional sibling. Parents may choose to split payments when registering. All Young Professionals are invited to this professional development session to hear an overview of AI with a healthy discussion about governace and ethical use. Artificial Intelligence is permeating every aspect of our careers and personal lives. Come learn what it is, how to use, and how to get an advantage in many tools before you are left behind. This introductory talk on AI will give you the tools and frameworks to get started using AI today. This professional development workshop is led by Venture Asheville’s Director, Jeffrey Kaplan. Jeffrey speaks on AI reguraly, ranging from statewide audiences to local meetups. He was formerly Governor Roy Coopers appointee to the NC Board of Science, Technology, and Innovation and is a technology entrepreneur himself. Prior to a life in entrepreneurship, Jeffrey was a multi-media educator and built the Digital Media and New Technology Graduate Certificate Program at Indiana University.

Hosted by Brian Lewis and Skye David, the dynamic duo behind the Do Politics Better podcast, the event will feature a conversation that delves into the intricate workings of the North Carolina legislature.

Speakers:

  • Brian Lewis: A seasoned lobbyist and expert in state politics, Brian leads strategy and messaging at New Frame, a bipartisan lobbying and communications firm. His extensive experience will provide valuable insights into the legislative landscape.
  • Skye David: With a background in policy, legal, and regulatory issues, Skye has become a trusted figure at New Frame. Her work has garnered attention in major media outlets, and her expertise will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of legislative matters.

Experienced Auditioners: Please come prepared with a resume, headshot, and a one-minute monologue if you have them. If you plan to audition for the musical, please also prepare 16-32 bars of a song and bring sheet music or prerecorded tracks. You may also be asked to read sides at the auditions.

Less-Experienced Auditioners: If you’re new to auditioning, and you don’t have the items above prepared, we’ll provide sides for you to read at auditions. Sides are excerpts from the script. If you’d like to audition for the musical you can prepare part of a song without accompaniment.

If you wish to submit a video audition, please send an acting reel or filmed monologue, your headshot, your resume, and 16-32 bars of song (if auditioning for Ordinary Days) to [email protected] by January 21, 2024.
