About Terri Lynn and Thomas Hinds Tour:
Terri Lynn Davis and Thomas Hinds paths were bound to cross at some point. Both spending time in the Southwest and with music souls committed to travel, these two have begun the adventure of a life time. Both developing their sound through playing live, and constant writing, and recording; they have set the foundation for a national tour in 2019, “Rub Some Dirt On It” from West Coast to East Coast and everything in between.
Her music stems from old Honky Tonk roots to 90’s country tunes with influences of Wanda Jackson, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Lee Hazelwood, Hank Williams Jr., Brooks and Dunn and Dolly Parton. Thomas Hinds began his journey as a singer songwriter in the early 1990’s, inspired by the music of bands such as U2, The Black Crowes, Def Leppard, and Counting Crows. These are just a few of the bands that ignited their fire and fueled their musical dreams.

Seniors 65 and older are the fastest growing population right now. These baby boomers are in desperate need of yoga and education to help them adapt to their older bodies, minds and spirits.
Curriculum:
During our time together, we will cover the basics of the aging process, looking at how yoga affects the aging process and also how aging may impact yoga practice. We will also cover special considerations relevant for specific conditions, including spine conditions, joint replacement, heart and breathing conditions, stroke and other neurological conditions, chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, and cancer. Time will also be spent on safe ways to improve balance and decrease fall risk. Sample classes will include floor and chair practices. We will explore modifications for yoga practices appropriate for people with limitations regardless of age. This weekend will be valuable for yoga instructors wanting to share the benefits and inner experience of yoga with a wide range of people while keeping them safe.

Founding father and master inventor Benjamin Franklin was also a pioneer of self-improvement. In 1727 Franklin formed the Junto, a weekly mutual-improvement club made up of a group of his peers and fellow Philadelphia tradesmen to discuss 13 core virtues and explore how to better incorporate them in their lives – and use them as a foundation for enriching the world. The club became the launching pad for all sorts of civic initiatives: the public library, the post office and the volunteer fire department, which have had a lasting impact on society.
Join us while we gather to discuss the 13 virtues in the context of the present day. We’ll meet weekly for 13 weeks and commit to making better and more conscious choices about our own behavior and work with others to spread those virtues through acts of kindness and good deeds. There is no cost and it is open to all!

Taoist Tai Chi® grew out of this tradition and is a way to develop a body that is strong, yet supple, balanced and energetic, a mind that is calm and clear, yet creative and dynamic, and a spirit that is light and peaceful, yet resilient. Taoist Tai Chi® exercises the whole physiology including muscular, skeletal, and circulatory systems, as well as tendons, joints, connective tissue and organs. Rather than depending on the development of hard muscle tissue, Tai Chi develops a body that is relaxed and strong at the deepest levels. The gentle internal movements are balanced throughout the body and have a calming effect on the mind. Taoist Tai Chi® is truly a moving meditation.

Patrick Bahls, Honors Program
Brad Petitfils, Advising and Academic Success
Ensuring academic success for every member of a diverse student body is a challenge. While a good deal of attention is paid to the special needs of students who struggle academically, we often have a tendency to assume that our “high-achieving” students will do just fine without our help. In reality, our academically talented students may struggle with a variety of issues, some of which (e.g., anxiety) correlate with their scholarly performance. We will lead a discussion on ways we can all help these students, improving both their chances for success and our likelihood of retaining them.
Library Brown Bag Talks are free and open to UNC Asheville students, faculty, and staff as well as the Asheville community. Feel free to bring your lunch. Light refreshments are always served.
For questions or comments about Library Brown Bag Talks, please contact Gene Hyde, Head of Special Collections and University Archivist, UNC Asheville. [email protected] or 828-251-6645

Art Travels: River Arts District
APRIL 11—Thursday, 1–5pm
Cost: $35 Museum Members, $40 non-members (includes transportation and refreshments)
Help us kick off programming for our grand reopening with an afternoon day trip to the River Arts District! This trip features studio visits with two artists whose work will appear in Appalachia Now! An Interdisciplinary Survey of Contemporary Art in Southern Appalachia ().
As a second-generation glass maker, Hayden Wilson has been around glass his entire life. Now a professional glass blower and caster, he has been an assistant instructor at the nearby Penland School of Crafts and the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, WA, and manages the North Carolina Glass Center’s hot shop. His utilitarian vessels and steel/cast-glass sculptures convey an aesthetic of clean lines and are inspired by modern design.
A native of Osaka, Japan, Akira Satake Ceramics moved to the US in 1983 and has been a WNC resident since 2003. A recipient of the National Award for Excellence in Contemporary Clay, he has also been featured on PBS’s A Craftsman’s Legacy. His ceramics seek to bring out the beauty of clay through a collaboration between the artist, his materials, and natural forces. We conclude the afternoon with tea and dessert from Cafe Yuzu / Yuzu Patisserie, and time to visit neighboring studios in Riverview Station.
Launching the new and expanded changing exhibition spaces when the Museum reopens later this spring, Appalachia Now! will explore the union of tradition and modern perspectives through contemporary artistic voices in this region. Building upon the Museum’s mission of collecting and interpreting 20th- and 21st-century American art, the exhibition situates artists not only within a regional and national dialogue but also within the rich history of creativity and art-making historically associated with Appalachia.
Space is limited; register by March 27. For more information or to register by phone, call 828.253.3227 x122.
