Tickets are on sale for a special appearance later this summer by Dwight Yoakam, two-time Grammy Award-winning country music star, at the Ramsey Regional Activity Center on the campus of Western Carolina University. Amidst a major cross-country tour promoting his new album, Blame the Vain, Yoakam will perform a benefit concert at Western on Friday, Aug. 19, for Habitat for Humanity and other charities. Hell be joined by special guest the Charlie Daniels Band. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. A country and Southern rock n roll star and fiddling phenomenon, Daniels is perhaps best known for his 1979 hit The Devil Went Down to Georgia. His new album Songs from the Long Leaf Pines, released this spring, is Daniels first major foray into the bluegrass genre. Critics have called it bluegrass with a swinging rhythmic funk that promises to put the spirit in your feet. Billboard Magazine praises his new release as musical magic one of the finest albums of his storied career. Yoakams new release, Blame the Vain, likewise crosses genres, embracing tradition one moment then playfully uprooting it the next, critics say. Theres a lot of reckless joy on this album, says Yoakam. Intentional Heartache, a frisky ode to Southern culture, the swaggering rockabilly rev-up 3 Good Reasons and the pedal steel drenched shuffle Ill Pretend are among his new singles. Tickets are on sale. Admission is $39.50 or $49.50. For tickets or information call (828) 227-7722, toll-free (866) WCU-FEST, or visit http://ramseycenter.wcu.edu. (Image provided by WCU.)
