The Annual Plant Sale, “Vibrant Versatile Viburnums”, a fund raising project sponsored by the French Broad River Garden Club, will be held Saturday, April 29th from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the gardens at 1000 Hendersonville Road, Asheville NC. The sale’s featured plant is the viburnum. Many varieties of viburnum will be for sale along with members’ garden plants, unusual and hard to find herbs, plants, shrubs and trees. Peonies and hellebores were the club’s featured plants in previous years and these “encore” plants will be available for sale, too. Approximately 16 vendors will be represented at this popular spring event – an Asheville tradition for over 25 years. Lunch will be available. Viburnums species combine the best elements that shrubs have to offer: Beautiful fragrant blossoms, handsome foliage which can turn beautiful colors in the autumn, attractive berries, and interesting branching habits. Almost all are easy to grow, tolerant of many soil conditions, and many will flower and fruit in semi-shade. The usual use for viburnums is in a shrub border but they are also useful as foundation plants, specimens, and in woodland settings. Most viburnums are deciduous but some are semi-evergreen or evergreen. The beauty and versatility of these plants makes them a must for almost any landscape in zones 4 through 9! Proceeds from the sale support horticultural, environmental and conservation projects in the community. The French Broad River Garden Club (www.fbrgc.org) is a member of the Garden Club of America. Barbara Kolack Veach is the Chairman of this event and Peggy Horner is her co-chairman. If you would like more information about this sale please call Barbara Veach 274-0556.
