United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County has announced the recognition of James W. �Jimbo� Stickney, IV with its Lifetime Achievement Award. Stickney, a former Chairman of the United Way Board of Directors, has volunteered in almost every capacity for the organization during the past 25 years. He notably co-chaired the Community Fund in 1995, the annual campaign in 1999 and the HumanCare Endowment several terms in the 1990s and again in the 2000s. Stickney and his wife, Robin, are Leadership Givers through United Way. The couple are passionate advocates for the issues important to them, including co-chairing the American Red Cross, Mountain Area Chapter�s, Heroes Campaign in 2010. Stickney has also served as board member and fund raiser for YMCA of WNC, which awarded him the 1999 Golden Triangle for distinguished services, and a board member of Community Foundation of WNC. He was named Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser in 2000 by the Association of Fundraising Professionals of WNC. In addition, for 10 years he was a big brother to Caleb through Big Brothers/Big Sisters, sharing his enjoyment of reading, camping, hiking and sports with the boy as well as his guidance and Stickney also positively impacts the business world, actively serving with the Better Business Bureau, of which his company, Insurance Service of Asheville (ISA) is a charter member. Since 1958, ISA has provided insurance and benefits for people, businesses, organizations and institutions through a comprehensive offering of insurance lines and life, health and employee benefit plans. Prior United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County Lifetime Achievement Award winners include: James Glenn, John Daniel, Charles Dyson, Ray Dean, Dick Wynne, Cary Owen, Glenn Wilcox, John Teeter, Walt Gladding, Charlotte Lunsford Berry, Pam Turner, Richard Hurley, Bob Burgin, Chat Norvell, and Charles Dyson and The Janirve Foundation. United Way mobilizes people into collective action through giving, advocating and volunteering in the areas of education, income and health.
