![]() Sandburg performed during the era of folk musicians, Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie, and was Burl Ives� mentor. Featured performers are award-winning balladeer Cindy Carpenter, performing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by Buddy Davis from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Mr. Davis, the originator of the PBS series, �Fire on the Mountain,� will be accompanied by Lena Jean Ray, singer, guitarist and daughter of famed award-winning fiddler, Byard Ray. Steve and Jean Smith will play Appalachian lap and hammered dulcimer tunes on stage from noon to 1:00 p.m., and will also perform in the pastoral setting of the barn at 2:00 p.m. Actor/musician Chris Van Cleave, who recently starred in the Flat Rock Playhouse show, �Keep on the Sunny Side,� will perform songs made famous by the A.P. Carter family from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tania Battista, Neela Munoz, Chris Bissett, and Damian Duke Dominique, who are actors/musicians from the Flat Rock Playhouse, will accompany Van Cleave. Award-winning Whitewater Bluegrass Company will play old-time traditional musical instruments and perform renditions of folk music from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Cole Mountain Cloggers, a local elementary school clogging team directed by Jeff Atkins, will perform from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. No reservation is needed, and there is no charge for the program or to visit the barn and grounds. Picnic baskets are allowed, but there are no drinks or food sold in the park. Wearing comfortable shoes and bringing folding chairs are recommended. The house tour is $5.00 for adults; children age 16 and under are free. Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site is located three miles south of Hendersonville, North Carolina.
