![]() Explorers ages 14 to 20 competed in programs ranging from mock trials to crime scene processing, as well as non-law enforcement related events. APD Explorers Arielle Hunter and Kayla Jones won second place in a talent competition for performing a duet of Jo Dee Messinas song Heads Carolina, Tails California. Winterfest has been drawing Explorers and other interested youths nationwide for more than 30 years. This year, some 3,000 participants converged on Gatlinburg for the events, competition and fellowship. The APD Explorer Post is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of Americas Learning for Life Program. Post 57 meets twice monthly and educates young people about police operations and involves them in community events through the department. More importantly, the Explorer Post builds mutual respect between local youths and officials in the criminal justice system. For more information about Post 57, contact Officer Allen Dunlap at (828) 259-5834 or [email protected].
