From its conception in February 2007, Dr. John Johnson and the founding members of Odyssey Community School set out to create a new vision for education in Asheville. With a community core centered on a shared commitment to lifelong learning and self-knowledge, Odyssey has manifested a 21st century educational model that includes a multi-age, continuous progress class structure and the integral philosophy, and creates learning opportunities for all ages. Odysseys focus on solid literacy in traditional academics plus creativity, innovation, technology, and self-knowing creates a framework for a new century and a unique offering in Asheville, North Carolina. Now in its 5th year, Odyssey has 120 students. Through a caring, dedicated and professionally trained staff, strong community support and a strategically located, amenity-rich campus, enrollment continues to grow. Over the next few years, enrollment is to grow to 145 students, while keeping the low 10-1 student/teacher ratios at an optimal level for learning.
