Just when you think you know it all � skateboarding, snowboarding, wakeboarding � along comes another �boarding� sport. The RIDE National Mountainboarding Championships will be held at the Holler Mountainboard Park in Fletcher today, July 23, from 10 AM � 2 PM.
Mountainboarding has been around for some time now, but, for the uninitiated, mountainboarding is a raucous, adrenalin-pumping sport that features all-terrain riding on huge skateboards with big 8-inch inflated all-terrain tires. Mountainboard riding can be done down grass, dirt, or street hills. The best professional riders from around the US and the UK will be on hand, and will compete at speeds exceeding 35 mph as four-man teams on a custom track. Spectators will see 12-foot freestyle jumps, and the action will include flips, huge spins, and supermans. The event is free to spectators; concessions will be available at the event.
