The Great Smoky Mountains Railway invites fans of the enormously popular preschool favorite, Thomas the Tank Engine, to Dillsboro July 23 through July 31 when they host a visit from Thomas and his friends. The classic storybook friend rolls into Dillsboro for a “Day Out With Thomas.” This fun-filled family event offers preschoolers and their grownups the opportunity to take a 25-minute ride (approximately) with Thomas the Tank Engine. The event features a variety of Thomas & Friends-themed entertainment, including meeting and taking a picture with Sir Topham Hatt, Thomas & Friends storytelling and video viewing, and a Thomas & Friends Imagination Station that features arts, crafts, and more. Since Thomas the Tank Engine left the depot more than 50 years ago, this “Really Useful Engine” and his Island of Sodor friends have chugged their way into the hearts of preschoolers and grownups worldwide. Based on “The Railway Series” of classic stories authored by a father who loved trains and wanted a shared experience with his son, Thomas & Friends is a rite of passage that inspires the imagination while teaching the life lessons of friendship, exploration, and cooperation. The 25-minute train ride with Thomas the Tank Engine will depart every 25 minutes, rain or shine, between 9 AM and 5:20 PM daily. This event sells out every year, so advance purchase is recommended to ensure a choice of dates and times. Tickets for a “Day Out with Thomas” are $16 for ages two and up. Tickets are available by calling toll-free 866-468-7630 or by visiting www.ticketweb.com.
