The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa unveils its new $40 million spa on Wednesday, February 28, 2001. The new state-of-the-art spa is considered to be in a class of its own, according to travel and health experts. The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa has even added "Spa" to its name to emphasize its latest addition to its world-class resort. The $40 million, 40,000 square foot subterranean Spa, located in the heart of the resort complex, has taken nearly two years to build, and will be unique both experientially and architecturally, according to Spa Director Ellen McGinnis. If you have not calculated the math on the cost-per-square-foot, the construction costs work out to be $1,000 per-square-foot. Today's upscale, well built home's construction costs fall somewhere in the range of $115-$150 per-square-foot. It takes some very involved amenities on the construction of a new luxury home to get construction costs over $500 per-square-foot. You have to double that cost-per-square-foot to match the dollars expended on the construction of this new luxury spa. According to McGinnis, "I have personally selected and trained the Spa's 150 therapists, aestheticians, programmers, concierges and other personnel, many of whom are coming from other spas, and some from as far away as Germany, France and Sweden. Some of McGinnis' custom-designed offerings will include:
Ms. McGinnis says, "The Spa at The Grove Park Inn Resort will be a combination of elegance, indulgence and magic." The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa, one of the American South's oldest and most famous grand resorts, was built in 1913 overlooking the Asheville, North Carolina, skyline and the Blue Ridge Mountains. On the National Register of Historic Places, the Inn is a favorite year-round destination with its panoramic views, old world charm, massive fireplaces, and a long tradition of great service and warm hospitality. The architectural theme of the Spa is consistent with the Grove Park Inn's Arts & Crafts heritage, and emphasizes Western North Carolina's natural elements of sky, water, fire and rock; more than 4,000 tons of native stone were used in Spa construction, both inside and out. The original building of the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa has recently undergone extensive renovations, and the inn now offers 510 rooms, including 12 suites and 28 oversized Club Floor rooms and 50,000 square feet of meeting space that includes two ballrooms and 42 conference rooms. Amenities include golf, tennis, two pools, indoor Sports Complex, 18-station Paramount fitness center, shops, fine dining and Children's Programs. If you have been thinking about taking a vacation at a world-class resort, complete with a spa and sports complex, consider staying at the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spaï¿œupon your departure, you will already be planning your next visit. all contents copyright © 1999, asheville.com. contact: [email protected] or 828.253.2880 For listing and advertising information...
