Asheville Makes Changes to Bus Route 28 & Route 54

Asheville Transit Route 28 has been redesigned and will have rate increases as well as changes to routing and scheduling. An assessment by the North Carolina Department of Transportation which found lack of compliance with federal guidelines concerning intercity routes and local participation prompted the change. On Oct. 27, Asheville City Council passed a resolution to fund the Route 54 bus to Weaverville until Nov. 7 allowing riders more time to find alternative modes of commuting. The route was originally scheduled to stop service on Nov. 1.

Route #28

Beginning Monday, Nov. 2, Route 28 will operate with different routing, schedules, and fares. Route 28 will now operate seven trips per day Monday - Saturday 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., providing connections to all Greyhound routes arriving and departing from Asheville Greyhound Station on Tunnel Road. There will now only be fourteen bus stops between Asheville and Black Mountain. For a complete list of changes, go to: www.ashevilletransit.com Service Alerts.

Route 28 will travel from downtown Asheville on Tunnel Road and continue on US-70 to Black Mountain in both directions. The route will no longer use Old US-70. Passengers living near Old US-70 will need to travel to US-70 to ride Route 28. Mountain Mobility has also made modifications to the Black Mountain Trailblazer. For details on the Black Mountain Trailblazer call (828) 258-0186 or go to: www.buncombecounty.org/GOVERNING/depts/Transportation/routes.htm

The fares will change to the following:

* Monthly passes - $55.00 - Discount price $27.50.
