![]() Brumit is stepping in for Charles Tolley, who was elected chair in August 2005. Tolley is leaving the board due to increasing family responsibilities. Tolley was appointed to the board for a four-year term by Governor James B. Hunt Jr. in 1999, and reappointed in 2003 by Governor Michael Easley. "We are fortunate to have this depth of talented and committed individuals on our Board of Trustees, and I am grateful to Janice Brumit for agreeing to accept the acting chair position, said UNC Asheville Chancellor Anne Ponder. We will all miss Charles Tolley's leadership and experience, and I imagine that we will continue to learn from his example in the months and years ahead." Brumit is a noted business and civic leader and a philanthropist. She sits on a number of boards, including those of Mission Hospitals and the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, chairs the boards of the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area and the Better Business Bureau of Asheville and Western North Carolina, and was the first woman to chair the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
