The natural beauty of Transylvania County and the health benefits that go along with spending time in the Great Outdoors are now a little easier to enjoy with the opening of the first phase of Brevard�s new bikeway. Health-conscious residents of Brevard now have a one-and-a-half-mile, ten-foot-wide paved path on which to walk, run, or ride. This is very good news for the community, and a long time in coming. It took over six years to develop and execute a plan, quell the concerns of area property owners, and land a couple of DOT grants to pay for the initial phase of the path, but the results are well worth the wait.
The Brevard Bikeway begins at Asheville Highway and the intersection with Allison Road, just beyond Blue Ridge Community College�s Transylvania County campus. The bikeway�s close proximity to area health providers is likely to develop into additional wellness programs for Transylvania County residents. Hospitals and medical practices have become increasingly proactive in recent years, encouraging the general public to take more responsibility for their own good health by participating in regular exercise; the bikeway is a natural addition to any program the hospital might develop in the future.
