The BMW Car Club of America has announced that they will be moving their headquarters to 640 South Main Street in Greenville, S. C., from Cambridge, Massachusetts. The BMW Car Club of America owners decided that after 30 years in Cambridge, being close to the BMW North America's plant in Spartanburg County was the smart move. The BMW Car Club of America, a not-for-profit membership association and Publisher of Roundel magazine, is the foremost BMW car club in America. According to Wynne Smith, Executive Director, the club's headquarters completely outgrew the space owned in Cambridge in 1998, and while attending BMW's M-Day event at the Zentrum, Philip A. Marx, Managing Editor of Roundel suggested a move to South Carolina might make the most sense. "If you're going to be a lobbyist, you move to Washington, D.C." Marx said and after several years of discussion and planning by the club's Board of Directors, the national offices will begin operations in Greenville on April 2, 2001. The BMW Car Club of America is no stranger to the Greenville/Spartanburg area, three very active chapters of the 63 chapters that the club currently boasts, are located within driving distance of the new offices. The 64 BMW Car Club of America chapters have a total membership of over 58,000. In October of 2000 the local, Sandlapper Chapter and Tarheel (N.C.) and Peachtree (GA) Chapters hosted a weeklong event bringing over 1,000 car club members and close to a million dollars of revenue to local businesses in Greenville. Smith also says, "We believe our relocation to Greenville will further augment the strong working relationship the club has with BMW Manufacturing and BMW of North America; while enhancing the BMW experience for our members by providing services, support, information, and activities that promote camaraderie and encourage social awareness and responsibility." all contents copyright © 1999, asheville.com. contact: [email protected] or 828.253.2880 For listing and advertising information...
