During recent months, the Buncombe County Solid Waste Departments environmental control officers cleaned up tons of trash alongside our highways and in our mountains, including 131 tires and 18 appliances that were able to be recycled. Through partnerships with local non-profits and with the help of our great citizens, 141 large trash bags full of garbage were removed from the environment and properly disposed of over the same two months. Volunteers who collected trash received a free Buncombe Green T-shirt for every three bags of trash collected. These cleanups were part of the Pick It Up campaign, but Pick It Up isnt over! We do make a push to pick up litter in the spring, but summer is also a great time to get outdoors and collect the trash and recyclables left along our roadways, in our mountains, and near our waterways. So, grab your neighbors and your friends and help clean up your community. If youre interested in getting started, call Rick Ramsey at 828-250-5471 for details. Buncombe County Governments mission is to promote a healthy, safe, well-educated, and thriving community with a sustainable quality of life and an effective and efficient government our citizens can trust. Our workforce is committed to excellence, integrity, and teamwork. We hope that you find that spirit among our people and that the information on this website will help direct you there.
