After years of crowded conditions at Weaver Park, the sole youth baseball field in North Asheville, youth baseball players of Asheville now have a new ball field with the grand opening of the field at Jones Primary School on Kimberly Avenue. Asheville Parks and Recreation, in partnership with Asheville City Schools, has just completed the brand new field to help serve the ever-growing demands for more fields for youth in Asheville. Mayor Leni Sitnick dedicated Jones Ball Field prior to the North Asheville Little League games on Thursday, May 17, at 6:00 p.m., at the field located on the north side of Jones School at 544 Kimberly Ave. While Weaver Park was, and continues to be, a wonderful home for many Little Leaguers for their spring and summer games, the need for an additional field was tremendous due to the sheer number of children who play baseball and the number of scheduled games that resulted. The new ball field at Jones Primary should relieve a great deal of the pressure involved in scheduling practices and games.
