The Asheville Art Museum Welcomes the Return of Pianist John Cobb on Sunday

The Asheville Art Museum is honored to welcome back renowned pianist John Cobb, who will once again perform at a very special Pianoforte recital on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the Museums Gallery 6. Tickets to this event are $6 for Museum Members and students and $8 + Museum admission for Non-Members. His performance is part of the Museums distinguished Pianoforte Concert series.

Dr. John Cobb is an international performer and recording artist known for his broad, interpretive range and technical command. Praised by the New York Times for his solid technique, bronze tone and flexibility of interpretive style, Cobb has performed internationally some of the most important works of contemporary music and has worked directly with many of the most influential composers of our era.

This summers first Pianoforte recital at the Museum honors the bicentennial of the birth of composer Franz Liszt (1811-1886), a Hungarian-born child prodigy whose work as a performer and composer in the 19th century, among other skills and talents, left a lasting impact on pianists and composers of the 20th and 21st centuries that followed.

John Cobb is a direct musical descendant of Franz Liszt through his teacher, pianist Claudio Arrau, whose teacher was a pupil of Liszt. Thus, Cobbs July 17th performance at the Museum will serve as a uniquely personal celebration of Liszts birth. Cobb will entertain and delight guests as he performs examples from all of Liszts compositional styles and periods, which are many and diverse.

Dont miss the live, on-air interview of John Cobb and Museum board member Harry Rowney with WCQSs Dick Kowal on Tuesday, July 13 at 12:00 Noon!

The Pianoforte Concert Series sells out quickly so reserve your seat in advance by contacting Nancy Sokolove, Adult Programs Manager at 828.253.3227 x120 or [email protected]. Admission to Pianoforte is $6 for Members and $8 + Museum Admission for Non-Members.
