A convention unlike any other is coming to Western North Carolina.
Beer City Comic Con (BCCC) will be held September 29 through October 1, 2023, at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville, NC. During the action-packed weekend, attendees can participate in academic seminars, panel discussions, costume contests, and more.
For this one-of-a-kind event, BCCC invites well-known, diverse, and select guests to speak on various issues ranging from how comic books and pop culture reflect our current social issues to “The Biology of Star Wars” to “Neurodiversity as a Superpower” and many more.
“BCCC is unlike any event I have ever conceptualized,” Johnny Shields, the producer of BCCC and owner of Johnny Shields Productions, says. “Growing up with undiagnosed dyslexia, comic books were not only the catalyst for developing my reading skills; they were a window into a deeper understanding of life through philosophy, psychology, physics, and more. I attribute my current love of learning to my early fascination with comic books. I hope BCCC illuminates the possibilities of what a passion for comics, sci-fi, and fantasy can do.”
Those interested can also purchase tickets for Friday’s CONx event. CONx stands for community, ontology, and noetics. It’s a chance for participants to hear from special guests about their passion, vision, and research. This lecture series will highlight stories from comic book creators, psychologists, philosophers, community leaders, religious scholars, social justice and sustainability experts, Navy SEALS, and more. CONx will take place at the banquet hall inside the Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville.
