Asheville Tourists’ Colin Barber Wins SAL Player of the Week

Asheville Tourists outfielder Colin Barber has been named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week.

Barber is the first offensive player for the Tourists to win the award in 2022. Asheville has had two pitchers win the SAL Pitcher of the Week award.

During the week of May 30 – June 5, Colin played in six games versus the Hickory Crawdads and went 11-for-21, a .524 batting average, with five Home Runs, one double, nine RBI, eight runs scored, and three walks. Barber struck out only one time.

Colin is hitting .416 since May 1 which is the best batting average in the South Atlantic League over that time. Asheville’s JC Correa and Chad Stevens are second and third in the league respectively during that same time frame.

Barber was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 4th round of the 2019 draft out of Pleasant Valley High School in California. He is batting .328 on the year with Asheville and has an on-base percentage of .436; both are second best in the SAL.
