The summer 2018 course catalog for the College for Seniors at UNC Asheville’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) is now available at olliasheville.com.
Paper copies of the catalog also are available at the Reuter Center on the UNC Asheville campus, and in-person assistance with registration will be available beginning May 17th.
Summer classes will be held weekly for six weeks, beginning June 18th. There are no tests, grades or credits. Most classes meet at the Reuter Center on UNC Asheville’s campus; dates, times and locations are listed at olliasheville.com.
OLLI’s College for Seniors approaches topics from many different angles. Health-related courses include The Prescription Drug Market in the U.S., Body and Brain Fitness, Chinese Medicine, Law and Health Care, Therapeutic Yoga, Strength Training, and more.
Novelist Agatha Christie, philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, architect Frank Lloyd Wright and actor Al Pacino will each be the subject of a course, as will Jesus, studied as a historical figure. Recreational courses are offered for those who want to learn mountain dulcimer, line dancing, needlepoint, swing dancing, piano and more. Other courses will foster an appreciation for summer white wines, film history, sacred sites in Ireland, and affordable outings in Asheville.
A special summer OLLI membership is available for $35. The summer term course fee is $75 for an unlimited number of courses. Some scholarships are available; the deadline to request a scholarship is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22nd.
The summer course catalog is available online at olliasheville.com. For OLLI membership information and registration, visit olliasheville.com/membership or call Herb Gunn at 828.251.6873.
