Ballet Conservatory of Asheville Presents Winter Works

Winter Works is an exciting evening of dance featuring neo-classical choreography by Nadia Iozzo & Nick Kepley, a new Modern piece by Lindsey Kelley Brewer, and classical repertory set by both Gavin Larsen and director Angie Lynn.

It will be performed by the Ballet Conservatory of Asheville’s celebrated professional and pre-professional dancers at Diana Wortham Theatre on March 4th at 7:00 pm.

It has been a wonderful year at the Ballet Conservatory.  Nadia Iozzo joined the Ballet Conservatory of Asheville’s permanent faculty, as Ballet Mistress this past Fall, anchoring the pre-professional program and teaming to choreograph their popular performances, including ‘Nutcracker’, ‘Winter Works’ and Spring Ballet, this year ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ coming up  June 2 & 3.

Originally from Toronto, Ontario, Nadia received the prestigious RAD Solo Seal Award before moving on to spend four years at Alberta Ballet, after which, she joined Kansas City Ballet for seven years. While at KCB she performed a summer season with Nick Kepley’s dance company, Motion, and fell in love with Asheville.  It is exciting to have Nick Kepley join the Ballet Conservatory from New York for this Winter Works session as guest choreographer.

Also joining Ballet Conservatory’s pre-professional faculty is Gavin Larsen. Gavin, a native New Yorker, received her dance training at the School of American Ballet, the New York School of Ballet, and Pacific Northwest Ballet School.  She began dancing professionally at age 17 with Pacific Northwest Ballet and went on to perform with the Alberta Ballet, the Suzanne Farrell Ballet, Oregon Ballet Theatre and as a guest artist with Ballet Victoria.  In 2010, Ms. Larsen retired from full-time performing to focus on a career as a teacher. She has taught for Oregon Ballet Theatre, The Portland Ballet, Ballet Hispanico, to name a few. Her writings on dance have been published by Dance Magazine, Pointe, Dance Teacher, Dance Spirit, Dance/USA’s journal In the Green Room, and the literary journal The Threepenny Review.

The Ballet Conservatory is proud to provide their students with the best daily training and guidance, and also committed to connect them with world-class professionals to help prepare them for the challenging demands of a dance career.  Our Master Class series has included Daniel Ulbricht (NYC Ballet principal), Karen Averty (Paris Opera Ballet Principal/ San Francisco Ballet Principal), John Selya (ABT/ Twyla Tharp dancers) and many others.

Tickets are $22 for adults, $18 for seniors and students, and $15 for children twelve and under. Please visit www.dwtheatre.com for additional information.
