Asheville Police Department officers with the Downtown Unit are sponsoring their second annual Sock Drive for the Homeless.
The department has placed a collection box in the main lobby of police headquarters and one in the entrance to City Hall.
The public is invited to assist the officers in collecting socks, hats and gloves to help our homeless citizens who will be subjected to the harsh temperatures associated with the upcoming winter months. All donated items will be personally delivered by the officers to the A Hope Hospitality House located at 19 N. Ann St., Asheville, NC; on Friday, December 23rd at 1:00 p.m.
Why socks?
Just think about it. When your old clothes wear out, or go out of style, most people simply donate them to a good cause. But what do people do with their old socks? They usually throw them out because there are worn out. A homeless person asking for new clothes at a shelter will normally get everything – except new socks.
