Girls on the Run founder, Molly Barker, will be the keynote speaker at an upcoming breakfast at the DoubleTree Hotel in Asheville.
The 10,000 Girls Limitless Potential Breakfast, sponsored by Rhinehart Fire Services, will be held on Friday, April 8th from 8:00am until 9:30am at the DoubleTree.
The breakfast is being held to celebrate the local council of Girls on the Run serving 10,000 girls in Western North Carolina since its inception since 2002. Along with Barker, guests will also hear motivational presentations by current and former participants of the life-enhancing Girls on the Run program.
According to Amy Renigar, Executive Director of Girls on the Run of WNC, “We are extremely thankful to our board members, volunteers and donors who have helped us equip these 10,000 girls with the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges with joy, health and confidence.” The breakfast will not only celebrate the girls and their achievements, but also all the people, businesses and organizations who have helped foster the growth of this program in Western North Carolina.
In 1996, Barker started the Girls on the Run program in Charlotte, NC, with 13 girls. Since then, the non-profit organization has served one million girls. Barker has since left the organization to head up The Red Boot Coalition, a project that focuses on taking the same message of authenticity and empowerment to those who are willing to address the current fear, anger and hyperpolarized state of some of our largest systems. Barker has been featured in media outlets like People, Runner’s World, Glamour, Shape, Redbook and Woman’s Day. She was also recently selected by Fast Company to the League of Extraordinary Women, Women Truly Changing the World.
Individuals interested in attending the breakfast are asked to RSVP at www.gotrwnc.org. While breakfast is complementary, donations will be graciously accepted during the event.
