Comforting Deceptions, an exhibition of paintings by UNC Asheville senior Maggie Harwell, will open with a reception from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, in UNC Asheville’s Owen Hall, Second Floor Gallery.
The exhibit is the culmination of Harwell’s work toward a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Comforting Deceptions, a series of large-scale oil and acrylic paintings and collages, contrasts aspects of recognizable “happy home” life with another narrative dimension of discomforting fantasy.
The exhibition will remain on view through Nov. 21. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. The exhibition and reception are both free and open to the public. For more information, call UNC Asheville’s Art Department at 828.251.6559, or visit the Department of Art website.
