Aaron Williams, executive vice president of the International Development Group at RTI International, will present What Does it Mean to Be a Global Citizen in the 21st Century? at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13 in UNC Asheville’s Humanities Lecture Hall.
His lecture is free and open to the public, and is the first in UNC Asheville’s new Moral Challenges Speaker Series.
Williams has more than 25 years of experience in policy formulation, strategic planning, and the design and implementation of development assistance programs. He served as mission director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in South Africa during Nelson Mandela’s release and ascent to that nation’s presidency.
Williams also worked in Haiti and in Latin America for USAID, confronting choices between providing short-term, often life-saving assistance to individuals or investing in long-term institutions that could lead to greater assistance for all. He has created and managed innovative partnerships between global corporations, government entities, nongovernmental organizations, and international foundations.
The Moral Challenges Speaker Series is sponsored by UNC Asheville’s Office of the Provost, and the deans of university programs and of natural sciences. For more information, contact Philip Gary at [email protected].
