Mark Weinstein named new President of Brevard Music Center

The Brevard Music Center (BMC) is pleased to announce that Mark Weinstein has been appointed as the next President of the institution. Weinstein has a distinguished 35-year career in the arts having served as Executive Director of the New York City Opera, General Director of the Pittsburgh Opera, Executive Director of the Washington National Opera, and CEO of the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas. Most recently he has worked as a consultant serving performing arts groups in Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh.
“Mr. Weinstein has a wealth of experience and a proven track record in fundraising, marketing, and management,” stated Falls Harris, chair of the Music Center’s Search Committee. “He joins the Brevard Music Center at a seminal moment in our history and is ready to lead this wonderful institution to achieve its fullest potential.”
As the Music Center’s next President, Weinstein will work with the BMC Board of Trustees and Artistic Director Keith Lockhart to develop long-term vision and strategy for the 77-year-old summer institute and festival.
Lockhart shared his enthusiasm for the announcement, saying, “I feel confident that, in Mark Weinstein, I will have a strong partner, fully capable of and invested in supporting the mission of the Brevard Music Center.”
Weinstein will replace Larry Fogdall, who has served as interim President of the Brevard Music Center since 2011. Fogdall, a former BMC board member, volunteered to guide the Music Center until a permanent President was selected. “Larry Fogdall stepped up to help lead Brevard through a transitional period when we needed solid leadership,” said Phillip Jerome, Chair of the BMC Board of Trustees, “he truly personifies servant leadership.”
Weinstein expressed his excitement in anticipation of joining an organization with a strong educational mission and a proven record of training and inspiring future arts leaders.  “The Brevard Music Center has a tremendous history and a very bright future.  I am delighted to be invited to join Keith Lockhart, and to work together with the board, staff, faculty, and volunteers on behalf of this important organization.”
The Brevard Music Center celebrated the end of its 2013 Summer Festival on Sunday, August 4. Weinstein will join BMC beginning August 26, 2013.
