Kids can get crafty and creative at these free summer programs for kids at the Swannanoa Library. The first three programs (Woven Jewelry, Trees in the Moonlight and Corn Husk Flowers) are sponsored by the Swannanoa Fine Arts League and funded by the Black Mountain-Swannanoa Valley Endowment Fund, an affiliate of The Community Foundation of WNC:

Woven Jewelry – Tuesday, July 16, from 6-8 p.m. This craft takes place during the Groovin’ on Grovemont outdoor concert in Grovemont Square, adjacent to the Swannanoa Library. Stop by the craft table at any time to make a woven necklace or bracelet! Suitable for kids of all ages.

Trees in the Moonlight – Thursday, July 18, from 3-4 p.m. (ages 5-7), and 4-5:30 p.m. (ages 8-12). During this program, kids will create nighttime landscapes with paint, pencil, and collage!

Corn Husk Flowers – Tuesday, July 30, from 6-8 p.m. Participants will make beautiful flowers from corn husks, an honored tradition of the Appalachian region. This program also takes place during the Groovin’ on Grovemont outdoor concert, so stop by the craft table at any time. Suitable for kids of all ages.

Nebula Sensory Jars* – Wednesday, June 26, from 3-4 p.m. Ever wanted to see space close up? Join us to make Nebula Sensory Jars and bring space to you!

We only have space for 20 kids total, so please register each child individually.

Intergenerational Lego Club – Saturday, July 6, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Join other Lego fans for the Intergenerational LEGO Club at the Swannanoa Library! Legos will be provided, so please leave personal legos at home.

Chalk Creations – Tuesday, July 16, from 10:30 a.m.-noon. We’ve got chalk and a blank sidewalk, so come help us fill our sidewalk with color!

Fantasy Terrariums* – July 23, from 3-4:30 p.m. Join us at the Swannanoa Library to create amazing fantasy terrariums. We’ll supply the jars, rocks, moss, miniatures, and more. Feel free to bring your own items to supplement.

* These programs only have space for 20 kids, so please register each child individually by visiting the Buncombe County public libraries website and clicking on the “Events” tab.
