Blue Ridge Center provides counseling for yourth and families, including substance-abusing adolescents; family preservation services for high-risk families; and specialized services for severely emotionally disturbed children. Psychological testing available for youth and adult clients.
The Charles George VA Medical Center provides health care services to veterans in Western North Carolina, upstate South Carolina and Georgia, and eastern Tennessee.
Warrior Canine Connection is a national nonprofit that engages recovering Warriors in the therapeutic mission of training service dogs for fellow Veterans. Service dogs undergo two years of training to assist Veterans with mobility issues, PTSD and TBI. Since 2011, WCC has supported the recovery of 10,000 Veterans and placed 145 assistance dogs, offering all programs and services, including dog placement, at no cost to Veterans and Military Families. Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) strives to improve the quality, geographic distribution, and retention of health care professioals throughout a 15-county region. Visit their site for a comprehensive view of the educational programs and services they offer.
Over 3,000 people in WNC have learned the TM technique, and the program has been offered continuously in Asheville since 1971.
Transcendental Meditation Program — Free Introductory Talk
Learn how to access the silent, peaceful field of limitless creativity and intelligence that resides within everyone. For years, the 18,000 square foot YMI building was the social and economic center of Asheville’s Black community. Currently YMI is a cultural center operating with support from the City of Asheville. Its impressive Tudor-style structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features four galleries and a 300-seat performing arts theatre.
Coping with Illness Support Group – Pathways Group is offered to people who have been diagnosed with a chronic illness. Group provides a place to share fears, hopes, treatment issues, beliefs and successes. Meetings are from 5:30 to 7:00pm on Mondays at Pathways-Life After Cancer
Hope-A Women’s Cancer Center has been dedicated to the privilege of providing the best possible health care for women. With a highly skilled staff and an innovative interior design, Hope provides patients with a beautiful and friendly atmosphere while remaining an office full of professionalism and the latest medical technology.
Girls on the Run is a life-changing, experiential learning programs for girls age eight to thirteen years old. The programs combine training for a 3.1 mile running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of the programs are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development.
