Join Steven Clontz, mathematician, professor, and puzzle designer, for this year’s Parson’s Lecture in the Blue Ridge Room of the Highsmith Student Union at UNC Asheville on February 22 at 7:00 pm.
The event is free and open to the public.
Clontz’s puzzles and games have been published in print, featured at such venues as the National Museum of Mathematics, and included in MaPP Challenge events across the country. His research specializes in the intersection of topology and game theory, and his work also contributes to the cyberinfrastructure of mathematics research and education. Clontz, based out of the University of South Alabama, uses active learning techniques such as Inquiry-Based and Team-Based Learning in his classrooms to allow his students to discover mathematics for themselves.
This annual lecture series is funded by an endowment from a 1998 UNC Asheville mathematics alumnus in honor of Joe Parsons, former professor of mathematics at UNC Asheville, who was dedicated to both the school and his students. The goal of the Parsons Lecture is to give the community an opportunity to attend a presentation by a nationally renowned mathematician speaking on a topic accessible to the general audience.
