Mountain Mural Tours has added new stops at the latest murals throughout Asheville’s thriving urban arts scene.
Mountain Murals offers private tours for groups of friends, family reunions, or company team-building sessions. They also host a Street Art and Sips Tour, which is perfect for bachelor and bachelorette parties or anyone who wants to enjoy art while sampling local beers, ciders, and wine.
The signature tour provides an exploration of public murals and creative graffiti from the River Arts District, or RAD, through downtown. It is also an exploration of Asheville’s rich history and the culture that serves as inspiration for local artists’ public creations. Our west side tour cruises the RAD and funky West Asheville, where guests can stroll Haywood Road and learn about the local businesses that support beloved pieces of art, including the mural of Dolly Parton and Ru-Paul commissioned by the Beauty Parade Hair Salon.
Mountain Mural Tours started in June of 2022 and has expanded into multiple tours to try to capture all of the thriving urban art scene in Asheville. Its founder, Krista Stearns, is a West Asheville resident and a long-time local entrepreneur who wanted to create a business that honors and celebrates local artists whose accessible urban street art communicates the values and legacy of Asheville.
Stearns’ local patrons said they see the Asheville mural scene in a new way now that they know the stories behind the public art. “My wife and I had a fantastic time together on this tour! The guides are super knowledgeable and throw in a lot of humor along the way,” said West Asheville resident Jeremy Phillips. “There were times to get out for a closer look, and as an Asheville local, I really appreciated the emphasis on diversity and history. And so many amazing murals! Asheville is like an open air museum and this tour will take you in comfort to the best. Highly recommended.”
“This was a great tour for my husband and me. We were visiting our daughter in Asheville and this was the perfect afternoon activity! We saw lots of fascinating artwork and got a great cultural tour of Asheville. Krista and Lewis were wonderful hosts, and the bus was comfortable and cool,” said another visior. “The best part was the stop at Triangle Park where we were able to get out and closely inspect the murals depicting Asheville’s African American history and chat with the neighborhood residents.”
Business owner Betty Baker of Sterling Transitions in Asheville said the Mountain Mural tours is among the best the city has to offer. “I’ve lived in Asheville for over 30 years and have done most of the tours offered in town. This one was super fun and enlightening. We took our company staff and it was a big hit for all and a great bonding experience. I highly recommend it for small business owners as a team building experience. Great photo opportunities too.”
