Minor-league Football Comes to Asheville

The MFL, Minor Football League, has announced it will launch a minor-league football team in Western North Carolina. The North Carolina Oilers will be based out of Asheville, North Carolina.

The MFL, based in Washington, D.C. and founded in 1993, serves the same function for the NFL as the minor-league system does for Major League Baseball.

The North Carolina Oilers will compete with 31 other teams across the nation for the league championship. Oilers players that make the roster will not be paid; however, they will receive uniforms, equipment, travel and lodging. They will also be featured to NFL and CFL Scouts.
