Butterflies are coming to the WNC Nature Center! Discover the secret lives of butterflies. "The Beauty of Butterflies", an enclosed, walk-through exhibit will open June 28 through September 5. On Nectar Collector Day children can get their face painted, make buggy arts and crafts and participate in butterfly games. Adults can learn about attracting butterflies to their gardens and learn about common butterflies in WNC. Regular admission rates apply.Discover the secret lives of butterflies in our walk-through hoop-house, home to hundreds of native butterflies and moths and the plants they need to survive. The third annual “Nectar Collector Day” is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities will feature fun for all ages. Some lucky visitors might even have butterflies land on them inside the butterfly exhibit! The Western North Carolina Nature Center and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) have joined 34 facilities from around the country to form the Butterfly Conservation Initiative. The Initiative is designed to bring together government and non-government agencies to aid in the recovery of imperiled North American butterflies. The WNC Nature Center and AZA are committed to butterfly conservation.
