Back-to-School Supply Drive Underway Through July 24; Asheville.com a Drop-Off Location


Hands On is once again holding a school supply drive to benefit local elementary and middle school students served by Children First and Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC. This year's Day of Caring School Supply Drive runs from July 1 through July 24, and there are several drop-off spots around town for those who want to contribute.

Asheville.com is proud to be collecting supplies for this year's drive at our office at 265 Charlotte Street in north Asheville. Drop off new items at the office (located inside the Manor Inn) Monday through Friday, 8:30AM-5:30PM, at the United Way office at 50 South French Broad Ave., or at any of these drop-off locations:

  • Back Packs
  • Rulers
  • 2-pocket folders with prongs
  • Boxes of # 2 pencils and art box
  • Packages of erasers
  • 2” or 3” 3-ring binders
  • Bottles of glue or glue sticks
  • Gallon-sized zip-lock bags
  • Boxes of Kleenex
  • Markers (washable)
  • 64 pks of crayons
  • Spiral notebooks (no perforated edge, please)
  • Pencil pouches
  • Package of Pens (blue or black)
  • 2” or 3” 3-ring binder with zippers
  • Calculators (*scientific functions helpful but not required)
  • Index cards
  • Colored Pencils
Only new items will be accepted. Financial contributions will be accepted at the United Way office; please specify “school supply drive” on the check.

Last year, because of our community's generosity, more than 350 students were outfitted with new backpacks stocked with school supplies. The needs will be even greater this year, so spread the word at work, at your faith community, and among friends and family, and condiser dropping by with a few supplies to donate!
