Older adults can go back to school this fall at UNC Asheville’s nationally renowned College for Seniors. More than 84 courses are available during the fall term from September 15-November 13. Classes will be held at UNC Asheville's Reuter Center, home of the North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement.
Students can explore Chinese ink painting with JinBao Han, director of the World Chinese Artist Association; examine the current energy crisis with Nobel Prize winner Lenny Bernstein; or learn about Islam with native Palestinian Ahmad Amara. History courses can be mixed with recreation, literature classes with personal development, finance courses with contemporary issues, or music classes with science. There's something for everyone, and no tests or grades are given. Cost for College for Seniors is $115 for limitless courses. Students must also pay the $40 annual membership fee to the North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement. Membership benefits include a campus parking permit, access to the University library, discounts on special events and more. Class size is limited; early registration is suggested.
