Historic Smith-McDowell Mansion Hosts Victorian Christmas Celebration

Come visit the Smith-McDowell House Museum and see how popular culture effected trends and styles from the 1840s through 1890s. The Smith-McDowell House Museum recently opened its Pop Culture Victorian Christmas Celebration with each room in this restored circa 1840 mansion being authentically decorated with fresh trees, garlands, ornaments, and toys of the Victorian Age. The Museums acclaimed Victorian Christmas Celebration has been a tradition since 1981. Thanks to the help of dedicated docents, who serve as guides during this busy holiday season, the Museum is transformed for a proper Victorian Christmas. This special event will allow guests to see and feel an authentic Victorian Christmas. This year, the Museum will also have a special exhibit on American pop culture featuring trees from Brevards Aluminum Tree Museum (www.Aluminumtree.com) Victorian Christmas Celebration runs November 15, 2005 through January 6, 2006. The Museum is open 10:00am to 4:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 4:00pm Sunday. The Museum will be closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for students with a valid student id, and $5 for children under 18. The Museum is located at 283 Victoria Road on the campus of Asheville-Buncombe Technological Community College in Asheville.
