The Smith-McDowell House Museum is continuing its series of Historic Parties for boys and girls 7 and up. This series is a hands on program bringing American history to life. Each party features historical or cultural themes from various historic time periods in American history. Dress code depends on the activities and programs in the Historical Series. The Tea parties are designed for girls ages 7 and up, although some parties will have activities that will interest both boys and girls. The parties will include a brief lesson, snacks, tea and a craft activity.
On August 23, 2008 the Museum will host a Civil War Party for Boys and Girls. The children will learn about Civil War lifestyles, music and the slaves’ struggle for freedom. The American Girl Doll Addie is a girl who escapes slavery with her mother in 1884. Also featured are fictional characters from the Dear America Series and My America Series from Scholastic Books. Dress code will be summer casual as some activities will take place outside.
