Holly Jones, Executive Director of the YWCA of Asheville, was recently awarded the 2007 T. Kennon Roberson Award For Management Excellence in Non-profit Health & Human Service Agencies. The criteria for selection for this award are:
- Service at his/her agency in a leadership capacity for a minimum of 10 years;
- Service should be as CEO or senior manager for that period;
- Leadership excellence within the organization, having the characteristics of
loyalty, integrity, and commitment to the agency;
- Qualities of leadership that are persuasive, effective, creative and stimulating
- Performance as a team player among his/her staff and peers;
- Demonstration of the same characteristics and qualities of leadership in the
greater community.
Harriette Winner, Chairperson of T. K Roberson Committee, said, “Holly is such a deserving winner of the T K Roberson award for excellence in Management. She is amazing, she juggles so many balls at once and does them all so well. She is mother, wife, Executive Director of YWCA, Vice Mayor of the City of Asheville and community activist. Upon her nomination to the T. K. Roberson Award, the committee was impressed by how very much her staff and board respect her and the work she does. We too have joined them in the respect they have for her.”
In January 2001, after a 36-year career with the American Red Cross, T. Kennon Roberson retired from his position as Chapter Manager of the Asheville-Mountain Area Chapter. He exemplified so many qualities of outstanding leadership in his field, the Red Cross Board of Directors established an annual Award for Management Excellence in Non-profit Health & Human Services in his honor. A committee of citizens was charged with the administration of this award, which annually recognizes the valuable contributions of professional managers in non-profit health and human services agencies in Buncombe County. This award is presented at the annual meeting of the award winner’s agency. Past winners of this award include Toby Ives (MANNA Food Bank), Lewis Kraus (Habitat for Humanity), Celeste Collins (Consumer Credit Counseling Services of WNC), and Jim Barrett (Pisgah Legal Services).
