“The Blue Ridge Parkway: America’s Favorite Journey”, a film created by Aperture Films of Hollywood, CA, for the Blue Ridge Parkway Destination Center’s theater, has received a prestigious international award of excellence, the “Platinum Best of Show” Aurora Award.
The film depicts the history and scenic beauty of the Parkway, as well as the unique biodiversity and cultural heritage of the North Carolina mountains, a region designated by Congress as the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area. The audio and visual special effects of the high definition film offer viewers a dramatic cinematic experience of a journey along the Parkway in the specially-designed 70-seat surround sound theater. The Aurora Awards competition is an international contest designed to recognize excellence in the film and video industries. Entries are judged by panels of working film and video professionals, making this award an endorsement by peers based on creativity, message effectiveness and technical excellence. The “Platinum Best of Show” is the highest award given. The Blue Ridge Parkway Destination Center, located at Parkway Milepost 384 near Asheville, opened earlier this year, and serves as an information center, museum, meeting facility, and headquarters of the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area. It is an environmentally designed “green” building constructed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) specifications. The building is open seven days a week every day of the year except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day. (Image provided by Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway.)
