BCS’ Foundation Announces Receipt of Progress Energy Grant


The Buncombe County Schools’ Foundation is elated to announce the receipt of a Progress Energy Grant from the Progress Energy Foundation for $20,000. These funds will be designated for classroom mini grants dealing with energy related activities. Martha Thompson, Community Relations Manager for WNC, says, “As the world that we know is changing regarding energy and energy-related products, Progress Energy is proud to support the continued education of students in a new economy. We look to our students to think differently about energy and to develop sustainable methods for us to enjoy the benefits of electricity while preserving our environmental future.”

Applications for the classroom grants are available online. The Buncombe County Schools Foundation wishes to thank Ms. Thompson and the Progress Energy Foundation for their continued support of education in Buncombe County.

The Progress Energy Foundation invests in nonprofit partners in Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina to improve the quality of life for both customers and employees. Grants focus on education, the environment, economic development and employee involvement. During 2007, the foundation invested over $10.5 million in the communities served by Progress Energy.
