"Life Blooms, Life Fades" with the Asheville Symphony on November 7

Join the Asheville Symphony Orchestra for "Life Blooms, Life Fades" on November 7. The program will include Puccini: I crisantemi, Copland: Appalachian Spring (Original Version), and Fauré: Requiem (1893 Version) with Yulia Van Doren, soprano, Tyler Duncan, baritone, the Asheville Symphony Chorus, and the Brevard College Concert Choir.

Daniel Meyer, Music Director, says that November's concert celebrates the cycle of life with two brilliant scores by two very different twentieth-century master composers cast against a touching Requiem from 1893. Giacomo Puccini, better known for great dramatic operas like Tosca and La Boheme, wrote this touching little dedication, I crisantemi (Chrysanthemums) to the memory of Duke Amadeo di Savoia. American composer Aaron Copland gave a title to his most famous ballet, Appalachian Spring, well after it had been written, but somehow its music is inextricably linked with the image of simple, mountain life and the blossoming of spring. By avoiding mention of hellfire and brimstone in his lovely Requiem, French composer Gabriel Fauré wanted to create a gentle dedication to loved ones who had passed. He succeeded in creating a poignant and melodious tribute that will feature the voices of the Asheville Symphony Chorus in warm harmony.

The performance is ay 8PM in the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium and the Asheville Civic Center.
