Asheville Community Theatre is pleased to announce the upcoming production of Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, based on the book by Judy Blume and adapted for the stage by Bruce Mason, opening on the Mainstage on March 9, 2007. This family friendly comedy runs for three weekends through March 25, 2007. Performances are held on Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. Asheville Community Theatre is located at 35 E. Walnut St. in downtown Asheville. On Opening Night, a pre-show complementary punch and champagne reception will be held. Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing is the story of fourth grader Peter Hatcher who has a terrible problem - his little brother, Fudge! Peter must deal with Fudge's disgusting cuteness, his constant meddling with Peter's stuff and other grave offenses, one of which is almost too much to bear. A perfect show for the entire family, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing is a hilariously honest look at the trials and triumphs of one grade school hero. Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing is based on the popular novel for youth by the same name by Judy Blume. Judy Blume is the author of numerous books for young and adult readers, including Freckle Juice, Superfudge, and Summer Sisters. Blume received the Library of Congress Living Legends award in the "Writers and Artists" category in April 2000 for her significant contributions to America's cultural heritage and in 2004 was awarded the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing is a story that has been loved by generations of children since it was published in the 1970s,” says Jenny Bunn, Program Director of Asheville Community Theatre. “We have a few opportunities each season for our amazingly talented local youth to shine on stage, and the children in this cast will knock your socks off.” Local student Zachary Robinson stars as Peter Hatcher, the narrator and self-proclaimed “Fourth Grade Nothing.” He was last seen onstage at ACT in Babe, the Sheep-Pig and has participated in many years of Tanglewood Youth Theatre’s summer camp. His onstage family consists of three ACT newcomers. Trinity Smith plays Mrs. Hatcher, William Thompson plays Mr. Hatcher, and William’s real-life daughter, Aislin Thompson, will portray Fudge, Peter’s annoying little brother. They are joined onstage by a cast of 40 ACT veterans and newcomers, including plenty of local students making their ACT debuts. Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing is directed by Michael MacCauley, who recently starred in The Dresser for North Carolina Stage Company. He is making his ACT directing debut. The set is designed by Rob Berls with lighting design by Jason Williams and costume design by Victoria Smith. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors (over 60), and $10 for students. The Box Office is currently open for reservations. Box Office hours are noon – 6:00 pm Monday – Friday, and noon – curtain on performance days. For more information, please call 828-254-1320.
