Wildlife Commission Schedules Fly-Tying Clinics in February

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is offering two fly-tying clinics in February through the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education near Brevard.

Both clinics are free and require pre-registration on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • Fly Tying: Level I – Feb. 13, 9 a.m. to noon. For ages 12 to adult. Level I students are introduced to fly-tying tools, materials, patterns and tying techniques. They work at their own pace to tie a basic pattern. Equipment and materials provided.
  • Fly Tying: Level II – Feb. 20, 9 a.m. to noon. For ages 12 to adult. Level II students who have mastered basic techniques are instructed by experienced fly-tiers to learn advanced patterns and fly-tying techniques. Equipment and materials provided.

The Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education is located near Brevard, just south of Asheville, alongside the Davidson River in Transylvania County. The center explores North Carolina’s mountain wildlife and habitats through regular programs and activities. The center also features five large aquariums representing different aquatic habitats. Visitors can walk next door to the Bobby N. Setzer Fish Hatchery, where trout are raised in 54 raceways.

The center’s hours of operation through March are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m.
