John Heliker: The Order of Things – 60 Years of Paintings and Drawings

Whether you’ll be heading to a Superbowl gathering or wanting to do something that doesn’t involve football, we encourage you to join Asheville Art Museum on Sunday for a discussion on the life and career of artist John Heliker.

The exhibition charts the development of work by artist John Heliker (1909-2000) and surveys nearly 60 years of his artistic production. It includes early drawings and paintings from the New Deal era as well as large oils from his later years, when he divided his time between New York City and Maine.

Bailey has written for various publications including criticism for Art/World in the 1980s and the online journal Artcritical.com. She was Associate Producer of a 1998 documentary film on the life of artist John Heliker and author of Robert LaHotan: The Early Years (2011). She has served on the Advisory Board of the Black Mountain College Museum + Art Center in Asheville, NC and is currently President and Executive Director of the Heliker-LaHotan Foundation. Bailey received her BFA from the University of Texas and MFA from Pratt Institute.
