Exhibit of Pastels by Cecilia Frederic to Open at UNC Asheville October 2

“For Abigail… With my greatest love,” an exhibit of 15 works in pastel by Hendersonville-based artist Cecilia R. Frederic, will open Thursday, Oct. 2, in UNC Asheville’s Ramsey Library Blowers Gallery.

The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Frederic’s pastel series portrays the lifespan of a magnolia blossom as a metaphor for the artist’s 27-year-old daughter, Abigail, who was diagnosed with Trisome 18, a genetic condition that is rarely survivable beyond infancy. “The chosen medium for this series is pastels,” Frederic said. “I found it so appropriate because pastels let me render the forms with delicacy, finesse, texture and coloration.”
