Contemporary Painter Diarmuid Kelley to Speak at UNC Asheville September 18

Award-winning contemporary portrait artist Diarmuid Kelley will deliver a lecture at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18 in UNC Asheville’s Humanities Lecture Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.

A native of Scotland who grew up in Northern England, Kelley’s work has been in numerous exhibitions and galleries around the world, including the National Portrait Gallery in London. At age 23 he became the youngest winner of the NatWest Art Prize. His commissions have included the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke of Devonshire, and his paintings have been purchased by Steven Spielberg and collectors Lord Charles Allen of Kensington and Michael Fisher. Kelley holds a Masters in Fine Arts from Chelsea College of Art and Design.
