Brevard Music Center Debuts Sundays in Asheville Series

The Brevard Music Center announces a new recital series in Asheville, NC – Sundays with Brevard Music Center. BMC is pleased to partner with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) to present free concerts to the community.

The series kicks off on Sunday, October 5, at 3:00 PM. Performances will take place on Sunday afternoons preceding the first Monday of each month from October through May (excluding January 2015) in the Reuter Center on the campus of UNC Asheville.

Performers will include members of the BMC artist faculty as well as other classical musicians from throughout the country. “We are excited to bring members of BMC’s wonderful artist faculty to Asheville. These talented musicians have graced Brevard’s stages for many years, and we are thrilled to share their beautiful artistry with Asheville audiences. This season we welcome back some familiar faces to western North Carolina, including Steve Cohen, Craig Nies, and Marjorie Bagley. In addition, we are pleased to introduce a few of our newest members of the artist faculty such as percussionist Gwendolyn Dease,” said Jason Posnock, BMC Director of Artistic Planning and organizer of the concert series. “We have a wonderful variety of programs this season including solo piano, a percussion concert, and a soprano and cello duo.”

Sundays with Brevard Music Center builds on the success of BMC’s First Mondays Concert Series, which takes place in Brevard, NC, on the first Monday of each month from October through May. BMC partners with Brevard College to present recitals in the Scott Concert Hall at Brevard College’s Porter Center for Performing Arts. Each First Mondays concert features a local community charity to highlight the challenges and needs facing the entire community. BMC President Mark Weinstein spoke of the initiative: “The First Mondays concerts bring great music to our local and regional audience members who are with us year-round. They are of and for the community. There is no better stage to share our common needs and give everyone the opportunity to make a difference.”

All concerts are free and open to the public.
