Asheville Tourists Clinch Post-Season Berth

The Asheville Tourists clinched a berth in the 2014 South Atlantic League post-season with a win over the Delmarva Shorebirds.

Only four of the 14 teams in the league earn the opportunity to compete for the SAL championship.

It is the second time in the last three seasons that Asheville has earned a spot in the playoffs. In 2012, Asheville won the Southern division in the first half, defeated the Rome Braves in the first round, and beat the Greensboro Grasshoppers to take home the championship trophy. Last season, Asheville missed out on the playoffs and the Savannah Sand Gnats won the league championship. Remarkably, Asheville and Savannah will square off in the first round for a chance to play for this year’s title.

If the Tourists defeat the Sand Gnats, they will host Games 1 and 2 in the best-of-five championship series against the Northern division representative. Those home games will take place on Monday, September 8 and Tuesday, September 9.
