thru December 6 - Cherokee Carvers: Tradition Renewed - he Asheville Art Museum is proud to present Cherokee Carvers: Tradition Renewed. Cherokee Carvers: Tradition Renewed will examine different aspects of late 20th and early 21st century Cherokee carving. It will include ritual objects, functional wares and pieces designed to be sold to tourists and collectors. The exhibition will include both stone and wood carvings and focuses on artists working in Western North Carolina today.

thru November 20 - CITY OF FOUR SEASONS IN TWO DIMENSIONS - Another of the region’s most popular juried and judged art exhibitions, attracting artists from throughout the region. This year’s show will be co-produced by its founder, WICKWIRE fine art/folk art, and The Arts Council of Henderson County and will be commemorating the 10th anniversary of a show that visually celebrates Hendersonville and Henderson County. - Greater Tuna - Flatrockplayhouse.org. Greater Tuna is a satire that pokes fun at small town ways and a comedy that has made an entire country laugh! Get to know all of the eccentric folks in the whimsical town of Tuna, Texas!

thru November 15 - Flat Rock Playhouse Presents "Greater Tuna" - Experience the Southern-grown spoof that launched the Tuna phenomenon as Flat Rock Playhouse presents the satirical comedy Greater Tuna onstage November 4 through November 15. Few shows have sustained the longevity and popularity that Greater Tuna has enjoyed over the years. The show began as a simple party skit based on a political cartoon more than 20 years ago in Austin, Texas. The creators of Greater Tuna, Joe Sears, Jaston Williams and Ed Howard, turned the sketch into a critically acclaimed production which has entertained audiences across the country ever since. The Playhouse has had quite a history of producing the holiday sequel, A Tuna Christmas.

November 5 - Urban Walk with Walk Wise - On the first Thursday of every month, a guided walk will be held in various designated neighborhoods around Hendersonville. This month's walk is scheduled for November 5. Location and time depends on the weather, guest guides, and the whim of the walkers. You are invited to come enjoy some healthy exercise, beautiful neighborhoods, and give your input on future improvements to walking routes in the Hendersonville area. November 6 thru December 3 - Mountain Sculptors Annual Exhibition - Vadim Bora Gallery hosts the sixth annual group exhibition of Mountain Sculptors in “METAMORPHOSIS.” An exceptional gathering of ideas and objects from the first seed of the creative thought, rendered in drawings, models and maquettes to the finished work. November 6 thru December 24 - Ride the Polar Express - Pajama clad passengers will board trains bound for the North Pole at The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad this holiday season! The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad anticipates the event will draw nearly 45,000 passengers! The Polar Express train rides begin November 6 and run through December 24. November 6 - “Stone in the Yard: Appreciating and Understanding Stonework in the Landscape.” - “Set in stone” takes on new meaning during two unique educational programs at The NC Arboretum this fall. Creating Images - The NC Arboretum is proud to host a lecture on November 8: “Taking Pictures versus Creating Images.” Everette Robinson hosts this presentation on the equipment and techniques used to produce the images found in the Carolinas’ Nature Photographers Association exhibit in the Education Center’s second floor Gallery. November 10 - The Little People: MIXED BLOOD WOMAN - MIXED BLOOD WOMAN is a contemporary dance theater company founded by Maura Michelle Garcia. Garcia performs her original multi-media piece that explores the world of the ancient Cherokee fairies, the Yvwi Tsvsdi or "little people," and the having, losing and reclaiming of traditional Cherokee beliefs and a conscious Native identity. November 10 - UNC Asheville to Host Lecture on Title VI by Attorney Terry Hodges - UNC Asheville will host a lecture by compliance attorney M. Terry Hodges at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, in UNC Asheville’s Humanities Lecture Hall. The lecture, “What is Title VI and How Will it Impact My Career?” will address Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This law prevents discrimination by government agencies that receive federal funding. The lecture will consider Title VI as it pertains to the Limited English Proficiency populations of North Carolina. A question-and-answer forum with local health and human services interpretation representatives will follow the lecture. The event is free and open to the public. Hodges is currently the only Title VI compliance attorney in North Carolina. The panel joining Hodges includes Laura Cooper, Buncombe County Medical Society; Debbie Duncan, Buncombe County Health Center; and Ralph Garcia, Mission Hospital. Additional topics for discussion will include the changing demographics of foreign languages in North Carolina, Title VI compliance and other minority issues. UNC Asheville senior Spanish major Daniel Holcombe will moderate the forum. Holcombe is president of the Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Spanish Honor Society, and chairperson of the Executive Bureau of the North Carolina Professional Interpreters Association.
