thru July 31 - POSTCARDS - A collaborative traveling exhibition of postcard-sized original paintings by artists from western North Carolina that are framed in black shadow boxes. Participating organizations include The Arts Council of Henderson County, Cultural Arts Council of Wilkes, Ashe County Arts Council, Watauga County Arts Council, Caldwell Arts Council, Cleveland County Arts Council, and Burke Arts Council. - 16th Annual Kiwanis Firecracker 5k - The 16th Annual Kiwanis Firecracker 5k will be taking place Saturday, July 4 with a new course and start time. This year's course will begin in the parking lot in front of North Buncombe High School. It follows a rolling course on a paved roads through the North Buncombe countryside, concluding back at the high school. Race start at 8:30 a.m. Registration fee $20 before June 20 and $25 after. Cherokee Carvers: Tradition Renewed will examine different aspects of late 20th and early 21st century Cherokee carving. It will include ritual objects, functional wares and pieces designed to be sold to tourists and collectors. The exhibition will include both stone and wood carvings and focuses on artists working in Western North Carolina today.

July 10 - BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY HIKE OF THE WEEK - Grab your binoculars and join Parkway Rangers for an easy 1-mile RT hike on the Pisgah Ridge Taril at 10 am, Friday, July 10. Learn about the birds of Pisgah Ridge and the northern hardwood forest they call home. The 90-minute guided hike will start at John Rock Overlook, MP 419.4, about one-half mile south of Graveyard Fields. July 11 - "Behind the Apron" Artists of the Asheville Pizza & Brewing Company - Discover the talented artists "Behind the Apron" of Asheville's landamark pizzeria and brewery. Over 15 artits will exhibit works ranging from painting and scuplture to handmade jewlrey, at this one day art event at Satellite Gallery down town. On Saturday, July 11, the Tourists will host “A Salute To Our Veterans” on Disabled American Veterans Night when the team takes on the Augusta GreenJackets at McCormick Field, beginning at 7:05 p.m.
